1. On arrival, is car parking easy and inexpensive?
Entrance to the marina is via a manned security barrier; all boats have a Security Pass which allows a vehicles into the marina. Parking is free and available near to the boats.
2. What is the general area in and around the marina like?
The area is a secure and safe environment, with the majority of the marina being pedestrian walkways. In the town of Puerto Alcudia there are all normal facilities you would expect in a marina side town, including shopping, restaurants, nightlife and entertainment. In the marina there are small shops, bars, restaurants and a supermarket that even stocks English newspapers.
3. Is English widely spoken in Mallorca?
Yes. The majority of people you will come across speak good English.
4. Are there other British owners who use the marina?
Yes, there are a number of British owners around the marina during the year.
5. Can you receive British TV channels on board?
Yes, if there is not one already, a satellite dish can be fitted to your boat as an optional extra.
6. Are there medical facilities available in Alcudia?
Yes, each boat has a manual on board with locations and contact details for the relevant medical facilities.
7. Is it safe to leave the boat at its mooring while shopping or sightseeing?
Yes. Each pontoon has its own security gate, accessed by a pass which only boat owners hold, while the well known and friendly marineiros (marina staff) are always on hand to help.
B. Managing The Boat
1. Who is responsible for cleaning the boat?
Prior to your arrival, Boat Associates organise the professional cleaning of both the interior and exterior of your boat. It is in the interests of each owner to ensure the boat remains reasonably clean and tidy.
2. What equipment is onboard?
All bedding, towels, crockery and essential boating equipment is supplied.
3. Is there a no-smoking rule on board?
Whilst we understand that some owners may smoke, in the interests of other owners, it is requested that no-one smokes within the boat's interior, and great care should be taken as any damage caused to the exterior will be payable by the owner responsible.
4. Is there a limit to the number of people who can be on board during a trip?
Yes, each boat has a maximum limit of passengers which is determined by a manufacturer’s recommendation and insurance.
5. Is there a limit to the distance I can travel on any trip?
Obviously fuel and insurance are the main limiting factors on the distance you can travel, but typically, most boats have guideline distance of between 250-300 nautical miles. This is easily sufficient to travel around all of the Balearic Islands and even across to the coast of Spain, however the boat must be returned to Alcudia at the end of the period of use.
6. What is the procedure regarding any accidents or incidents?
Any incidents involving the boat, or breakages of equipment should be immediately reported to the Boat Associates Resident Manager. The owner responsible for the boat at the time of the incident maybe required to pay for minor replacements or any excess on the insurance if applicable.
7. What is the procedure in the unlikely event of any mechanical problem with the boat?
Contact our Resident Manager in Alcudia immediately who will arrange repairs as soon as possible.
8. Who is allowed to drive the boat?
Any owner suitably qualified or professional skipper vetted and approved by Boat Associates management may take charge of the boat.
9. Can I moor the boat anywhere round the Mallorcan coast?
Yes, if the mooring is safe. However you may need to pre-book at certain marinas. The Boat Associates local manager will be happy to give advice.
Insurance and Maintenance
1. Is the boat fully covered by insurance?
Yes, it is comprehensively insured. However there is an excess on the insurance policy for which the owner will be responsible.
2. How often is the boat serviced, and what is done?
Once yearly the boat undergoes an annual service plan. The boat is taken out of the water cleaned, and thoroughly checked over. This including a major service on the engines. Owners will be consulted prior to this to decide on any other upgrade or repair works to be completed during the dry docked period. There are roughly 4 weeks available to complete.
3. Who is responsible for maintenance, and where is this carried out?
Boat Associates arranges all maintenance so as to ensure that the boat is kept in first-class order. Maintenance is carried out in Alcudia, organised by the Boat Associates Resident Manager.
D. Ownership Organisation and Privileges
1. How is ownership divided?
There are eight equal shares. It is possible to buy more than one share if you desire a larger or more flexible time allocation.
2. Is it possible for two or more people to buy one share between them?
Up to two names may appear on a share certificate, for example husband and wife.
3. How is the allocation of weeks decided?
Boat Associates will organise an annual meeting of all the owners at a central location. Using an agreed system facilitated by Boat Associates. Owners will be able to book their weeks for the forthcoming year.
4. May I exchange my allocated dates with another share owner?
Yes, this is done through Boat Associates in order to ensure system is administered correctly. All owners will be informed of any updates to the annual boat allocations.
5. May I lend the boat to a relative or friend during my allocated sailing dates?
No, this is not possible. The owner must always be in charge of the boat.
6. Do boat ownership shares keep their value?
From experience shares in a high-quality boat retain their value well. However, on average, boats depreciate 10% per annum. Though, obviously as a share owner in the boat, you would only experience a small portion of that depreciation. This is one of the main advantages of Group Ownership.
10. Can I sell a share?
Yes. Boat Associates will manage the sale of your share for you. Through Boat Associates continual marketing campaign, there is likely to be a potential buyer for your share already.
